SAR Services

Individual and Systemic Advocacy

SAR works with individuals and families as they seek services from schools, case management agencies, sheltered workshops, supported employment services, recreation programs and residential services.  SAR also works with and supports, monitors and reviews all organizations serving persons with mental retardation to ensure the rights, interests and needs of the people we serve are met, and to the extent possible protected.

Future Planning and Conservatorship

SAR’s Conservatorship Program assists families in designing the kind of future they want for their son or daughter with mental retardation.  When a loved one with mental retardation reaches his or her 18th birthday, the State deems them emancipated, now able to make decisions for their own well-being.  SAR members and families understand the ramifications of this decision and frequently seek Conservatorship for their loved ones as a safeguard of protection and representation. We at SAR believe the love, sensitivity and oversight provided by families and friends cannot be surpassed.  SAR is here to provide family assistance and needed advocacy services.   Companion services can also be provided to continue each individual's active participation in the community.

The SAR Annual Appreciation Dinner takes place in the Spring and lets the Association focus on bringing public awareness to the accomplishments and capabilities of children and adults with mental retardation.  As a part of our public education mission the association also sponsors Future Planning Classes to answer many questions posed by families about how to provide for the future they have envisioned.

SAR launches travel site

Sacramento Association for the Retarded is pleased to announce that we have joined the flourishing travel business!

When you visit www.sartravel.org or click on the link provided here, you will be taken to SAR's travel site. This extremely powerful tool allows SAR to earn a commission each time airline travel, hotels, rental cars, etc. are booked on our site.

You will find that sartravel.org offers the lowest travel costs available and is entirely competitive with the "discounted" internet travel sites. The only difference is that your internet booking at SAR's site allows SAR to earn the commission you are paying, rather than the commercial for-profit sites.

www.sartravel.org also advertises short-term "drop-dead" travel offers on an available basis.

Please join SAR in making this opportunity a successful endeavor to better help our families.
